Digital distributor SnagFilms has teamed with online film-submission platform Withoutabox for an initiative that allows filmmakers to submit pics to SnagFilms for distribution consideration via Withoutabox.

A division of IMDb, Withoutabox is already used by a number of film festivals as an online application portal. The partnership with SnagFilm reps an unusual initiative that aims to boost accessibility to distribution pipelines.

Indie-centric SnagFilms showcases pics in sponsor-supported, free, on-demand viewing through the company's website, its tablet computer apps and services including Roku and Boxee. Movies also are offered through paid VOD on Comcast, FiOS, iTunes and Hulu Plus, among others services.

In the three months since the soft launch of the SnagFilms-Withoutabox initiative, more than 250 pics have been submitted to SnagFilms for consideration.
