I think that the impact hypothesis is wrong because the city-size asteroid grazed the earth, thus left Iridium scattered over an area of New Mexico, AZ, toward gulf region. The asteroid bounced off earth. The deposits of Iridium are wide as it entered earths atmosphere which explains the spread Iridium over large area in heavy concentrations in those areas. The lack of evdience of full impact depth this would have created somewhat differnt damage which we see, The asteroid is heading away from earth as we speak. google can’t find it..

2012 is a farce. Nothing will happen. The bible is also a farce. There is no god, no devil, no heaven, no hell.
All of you brainwashed morons feel the nesessity to bring “god” into every conversation. Keep your fairy tales written by primitive sheep-herders to yourselves. And please, do me a favor - do NOT pray for me. I don’t need to be “saved”.

This was an excellent production. Although Jupiter is a much larger target and sits in a more precarious zone, earth carries no special immunity. I do however feel that we may see effects of a “near miss” sooner than an actual impact and wonder what those effects would be. The effects of the moon’s gravitational pull are known and predictable but what about a smaller body that grazes the earth’s extremities at high speed? A body much closer to the earth than the moon would magify its gravitational effects and would be a sudden “pulse” of pulling force over a swath. It would be interesting to see calculations of various scenarios like this and what real effects we could expect to see by such an event. Had it not been for the Shoemakers, the Jupiter impact and its effects may well have gone unnoticed or discovery come too late for any meaningful documentation.

Our journey is to be as long as we want to be… It is so pity that we are all as dwellers of the earth being manipulated and brainwashed for living harmoniosly and orderly and peacefully for only for our countries. We should all be unified for all humanity. Thanks to Shoemakers for showing us poor earthans is what scientific minds should be doing for earth and its silly dwellers. It is time we all need to wake up and smell the roses. We don’t need borders and seperation by religion, language and sex but we all have to come toghether to experience the joy and peace on this wonderous earth. We need to unify as one nation under science.

Very interesting, always been attracted to this kind of ideas of the world ending. I fear that we won’t have a plan of defense, and without support from the other nations we will be blown off the face of the planet. They have to start investing into some kind of shield to protect us against this threat. Again, im scientist, president, governor or a rich lawyer. But, all this will mean nothing when we die from a threat like this because we choose to continue living as if we don’t see the truth. Well it’s a fact in the bible the world will come to a end by some kind of fire. *Sighs...*

Gerta Keller of Princeton University explains that the asteroid that hit earth and supposedly was the final blow in the extinction of the dinosaurs, vaporized into our atmosphere. Has any scientist ever questioned the make up of this asteroid? We know asteroids are from remnants of other planets and stars and planets running into each other and “blowing up”. We also know these asteroids and comets contain many different minerals, rocks, bacterias, and it’s probable to assume they also contained different life forms or the ability to begin lifeforms in the correct environment. We have no idea what the make up of the billions of other planets consist of and it is ludicrous to assume that scientists do. My own personal theroy is that the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs or brought their numbers down to miniscule numbers, contained the lifeforms we see today. It doesn’t matter if we think that nothing could have lived on it, we know nothing of how or what in this case because it dissapated. If scientista believe that all life began in the ocean wouldn’t it be logical to consider this asteroid brought the life forms that were more complex that the ones that were present in the ocean at that time? This is my own evolutionary theory. I believe all of the cards line up....

This documentary is not new, but hopefully it alerts the populace to a real and grave danger to all of mankind and to the very survival of life on earth.
Gene and Carolyn Shoemaker should be awarded the highest civilian award the world has to offer. Maybe Al Gore would like to donate his Noble Peace Prize award.
If only our national and world leaders would take this seriously, what a way to redirect the focus of the space race from a war like approach to a real “save the earth” project. Think of the positive national and international cooperation such an endeavor could create and the jobs and industrial boost that would be manifested. The boost to our tech industry alone would eventually pay for such a project - not to mention the savings from the world wide space and nuclear arms race. Now here is a valid mission statement for the United Nations - that is if we can ever get them to collectively cooperate on anything
Perhaps our president and the democrat controlled congress would be better served (the citizens of this country and the world certainly would be) if they back off the current, idiotic approach to governmental health reform and takeover and concentrate on this type project. If we are unprepared for the next cataclysmic invasion from space (and it will happen) then all the health care improvements and greening of the world will be absolutely useless!

We owe a lot to Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker. I had the honor to meet these wonderful people in West Texas years ago. Eugene was amajor player in the exploration of the moon. Most people know David Levy, Eugene and Carolyn predicted that a comet by their name would strike Jupiter. Thanks to their prediction and accuracy many including myself were able to observe this marvelous event. The world lost a great man and he will be remembered.
Posted 03/05/10 by ronin
Yeah, ok but how did it get here? why did it hit here? who or what was resposible for sending it here? Think about it from a supernatural point of view. You will descover it was delberate.

Well if anyone like myself belive in bible it says that the world will be destoyed by fire, maybe just maybe we will start to belive.

if any object the size nasa is following strikes this planet, then the problem isnt and wont be in space, it will be were it always has been...............in politics!!!!!!!!!wanna get green with earth??? then lets really do it,billions of tons of toxic waste just from the compitition on what charging/data connectors get made and lost, stolen, thrown away......USB D across the board for all handheld devices......the money saved in that one change world wide would more then complete the MONEY NEEDED FOR NASA TO BUILD AND EDUCATE ASWELL AS A DEFLECTION PUPOSAL AND SOLUTION!!!!!
Posted 08/14/09 by sally
If a large meteorite lands in water, there will be tsunamis following it then flooding and more inland destruction. the smallest pea-sized ones won’t matter much but if the meteorites are the size of mountains, it will probably take out a whole city and its surrounding areas, not just a household pet...we won’t be around to mourn its loss. We will all go!

how can they be so sure that there is no near earth meteors now when they didnt even see what hit mercury? last week????
Posted 08/12/09 by martha
Depending on the size and what its made of it will not matter where it hits.Hopefully it will land in water.
Posted 07/29/09 by Megan
I wonder wher the asteroid will hit. Either one country or contanint or the entire earth will be destroyed!!! I sure hope that doesn’t happen!!! That would be horrible!!! I can’t stand the thought of losing my pet turtle or my rabbot or my 5 dogs or my 12 kitty cats!!! Oh the horror!!! :-(

I honetly think that this is going to be the end.
Were not strong enough to survive a falling rock
the size of a mountin. It’s impossible !!! So,
we will probaly all die in 2012, but who knows?
Maybe there will be survivers. Maybe god is trying
to tell us something… maybe this is a sign !!!!!
Clean up the earth. Okay well i said my opinion.
Everything happens for a reason! :|

The “vast majority of the scientific community” is in denial of AUTHENTIC scientific facts and empirical evidence. People think organized religion is bad. Organized Pseudo-Science is an entirely faith-based RELIGION in it’s own right. Heretics are constantly ex-communicated from “the flock”. Any scientist who dares to question the doctrine of the THEORIES of evolution or relativity or even global warming are quickly denounced. They attempt to silence anyone who may offer alternative theories or evidences. Those in power want to stay in power. Science, like organized religion, has become politics. It’s about MONEY. Don’t believe me, convince yourself. Just google the so-called carbon dating methods. Research the lies these scientific “men of truth” are perpetrating.

Al said: “Dinos didnâ??t go extinct from an asteroid, it was a dust cloud in space. How do I know ? I did petroleum geology in the 80â??s and found the evidence. Itâ??s all burried. Al”
The vast majority of the scientific community recognizes the Chicxulub meteorite/asteroid impact of 65 million years ago as the overwhelming cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs—in fact nearly all life on planet earth of anything above 50 pounds.
The evidence from a wide variety of disciplines is stunning—dwarfing any other possible alternatives or any combination thereof.
And spelling the word buried as ‘burried’ lends little credibility to any postulation.

I think I must to have seen this documentary and others like it more than a few times over the course of the years. And I have yet to see or hear to this date of any effort from any body to even follow up with anything that conclusively will take a proactive step to bring about at least awareness to this eminent situation that seem so certain to occur.
I believe that just as important as the department of defense and homeland security, so should be the need of creating a multi-national agency dedicated to observe, to look in the universe for these objects and research them thoroughly. to study their existence and their path. I believe that if we reach out to do this, As the bastion of the science, research and technology the United State is, the rest of the world would be more inclined to respond favorably in creating this multi-national agency of observation and research. Furthermore, if the scientific community would be more in touch with the news media in bringing their findings, ideas and solutions forward, they would be apt to inform us more in detail how deleterious is the likelihood of being strike by such object, any day of any year in the future, there would be more interest to deal with this elusive subject and that way work to really ensure the continuation and survival of our species in our world as a whole.

It made me realize how small we really are in this vast Universe and that this is but one thing that should give us pause as we live our daily lives. Are we sinners in the hands of an angry universe or God?
Posted 04/15/09 by OSCAR FERNANDEZ
Amazing, mindboggling. Can we prepare for survival of the species against something like this ?
