Atleast the truth has been coming out now, that these girls are also TAKEN and STOLEN for the adoption market in China. Posted 10/05/09 by Juanita Zerkle

I am speechless. The world is so messed up. Not just in China, but everywhere. Posted 08/24/09 by cfabio
it’s not about “preferring to have a boy.” It’s much more complex than that. WIthout a son, parents won’t have anyone to take care of them when they are too old to work. In China, when daughters marry, they go to the husband’s family where they are then expected to care for the husband’s aging parents. You have to understand the whole culture, in order to make sense of the situation. Parents don’t prefer to abandon their daughters. It breaks their hearts. Often, the mother doesn’t have a choice-- the baby may be taken from her as soon as she is born; the mother feels the pain of labor, hears the baby cry, hears the announcement that the baby is female, and then never sees the child again. Often another family member will clothe the baby, write a loving note with vital information, and take the baby to an orphanage or market place in secret. I adopted my daughter from China and I know that somewhere across the world, there’s a woman who grieves every day for having lost her daughter. I feel a strong responsibility to that unknown woman, to provide my daughter with the love and the life she was not permitted to. Posted 06/30/09 by moth
At Cornell when the ratio of males to females was 10:1 a cute guy friend who went there thought the girls became totally arrogant, unapproachable and full of themselves. Or are all three descriptions the same thing? You can read about projected fear that girls will be enslaved for prostitution with these percentages, or unenslaved prostitution, as you see in military areas, would take over. Maybe Chinese men will simply go to other countries to find mates. People mess up everything else so why expect more from this interference. It’s another bizarre thing to watch, except that it’s human lives and might be painful. Maybe it won’t be all bad. Control over spoiled men’s (one boy per family- they will be spoiled) egos. Girls Rule. Posted 06/27/09 by Yung Truong
It’s sad to see so many baby girls being abandoned in China just because the parents prefer to have a boy due to the “one child policy”. Since the Chinese government is quite wealthy as a nation, they should put some kind of money incentive or something to parents who are willing to keep their baby girls. If the Chinese government don’t find a way to resolve this overpopulated males quickly, it’ll be a lot more costly (both financially and socially) in the long run. Unfortunately, the problem is already happening… Posted 06/27/09 by Yung Truong

Fantastic Doc I would love to see more on the effect of so many boys growing up without girls in China. Also couldn’t help noticing that guy from Alanta seemed to think Lucy was the chinese girl in Charlies Angels. Not to put down Lucy Lui but I think Lucy is one of the most interesting reporters out there! I would love to see more from her. Posted 04/09/09 by John J. Grimes
One unknown with respect to this situation is the practice of kidnapping young boys that are then sold to a family seeking a male child. More than 4,000 males and their grieving families have fallen victim to this horrible crime in the past year. Posted 04/06/09 by dina little

What we aren’t understanding is that we are taking their daughters. Not the parents’ daughters, but the country’s. Honestly, when you think of China, or any other country for that matter, what is the best thing you can think of? The women. Women make the nation what it is. Sure, men may run it through the government most of the time, but women add most of the culture, pride, and doggonnit they give it more children--the light and future of the world. If you had a case full of uncut diamonds, and you knew exactly where each one came from, and the potential was limitless, how hard would it be for you to let one go? Especially if it were to someone you don’t even know. Abortion isn’t an option. Allowing millions to grow up parentless with the knowledge that no one wanted you due to your gender only is inhumane. Dismissing the One Child Policy ignites the fuse leading to the twenty-seven kegs of gunpowder bound to China’s chest. Giving these precious jewels away to Americans, no matter how loving, won’t solve it either. There must needs be a different solution, a better solution. Posted 03/30/09 by Raistlin

Where are the millions of testosterone-charged young Chinese males going to find mates since China’s one-child policy has made young women as rare as hen’s teeth? Posted 03/12/09 by Katie
I have three boys and each time I was pregnant the sex of the baby never mattered. We just prayed for a healthy baby. I looked into adopting prior to having our third baby, but the cost of the adoption made it impossible. If China doesn’t want their baby girls, then why don’t they make the adoption fees more reasonable? I understand some of the fees are for the home study to make sure we are a good family, but the majority of the fees were going to the country of origin and to the agency facilitating the adoption. It breaks my heart to see all those cribs lined up with babies waiting for parents to love them. I would adopt in a heartbeat. Posted 03/12/09 by wanda
A global law should be passed that all orphans be adopted without a price list. $20,000.00 proves money is the root of all evil. Lives, not money, counts. Posted 03/12/09 by lori
Whats really sad is the $20,000 they expect to adopt these girls. My husband and i were in the process of a China adoption, but ran out of money.I am unable to have children and would take 6 of these girls and raise them well if i could i just don’t have the $$$$ to do it------it breaks my heart. My parents had three girls â?? and they were both offended when strangers suggested they keep trying for a boy. I admire the parents who adopt these girls. Americans still have a way to go for true fairness with respect to gender. But, I’m proud our society is more equally-minded than other cultures and willing to give these girls a home. I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary. I have heard about the issued in China for decades growing up but this piece beautifully showed it in a very personal way. |
