Some people do drugs, some party, some live a average life but I understand why these guys are in to it and its totally normal.  In a way I feel like joining this because it looks like a lot of fun but I feel fine with my own life.

Great Documentary imo, but all it needs is a bit more background but it looks like they went with a human approach.  It would of been nice understanding how all of this came to be and if they went deeper into the lore.

I you think you’re that much of a badass, come out and fight. It takes a good while to get used to being hit, til your skin thickens up. This movie is over-dramatized. There is much more fighting than role-playing. I’ve been playing the game for about seven years now and I can say with certainty that this movie will do nothing to prepare you… so like I said, if you have the balls come out and fight. If not, STFU.

I’m gonna dress up as Sweeney Todd and go into one of these little events or whatever and “assassinate” people and take their fake money, lol

I play Dagorhir, a battlegame very similar to Darkon but without so much roleplaying involved, and this documentary seems to really explain the true reasons why these people choose to play. Stuff like this truly is a ton of fun, and it’s one of the most active and socially engaging ways to have lots of nerdy fun. It also combines a ton of other skills and other hobbies into it as well; stuff like sewing, armorsmithing, battle strategy, diplomacy, combat skill, bartering, and crafting all play roles in a game like this - same for Dagorhir, and other battlegame organizations.

And don’t bash this kind of stuff if you’ve never played it. Yeah, it’s super-nerdy, but it’s also super-fun. Don’t forget that.

all you people that are bashing this, go watch something else if you don’t like it. i love larping, it makes me able to get out of the sh*t storm that is reality, it makes me able to escape the mundane. it also allows me to beat ######## to *death*, just with a foam sword.

How is running around hitting someone with your plastic sword going to get you out of your parentse basement? I mean especially if this was part of your high school life, i think its time to grow up. Keep talking about sitting on that “throne of darkin” let me get you my rocking chair, we can even engrave your name on it (: you’re right people do think this is a joke but respect isn’t so much earned let alone them taking you seriously about your lord of the rings reinactment. If you die, oh well? You’re going to be up back in 12 minutes, 24 hours if you’re assasinated lol.

As avid Rpers and gamers (not as in depth as darkon) we LOVED the movie. We laughed at some of the in character personalities that were out there and some of the statements that were made my husband and I toss around to each other through the day now. But you know what? Those people are OUT of the house.. UNplugged from the TV.. being creative and having a good time.

GOOD FOR THEM.

Best comedy of the year. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time!

Very well put together, I’ve seen many atempts to normalize role playing but this is by far the best I’ve seen. It gets straight to the point that role playing is just normal people haveing a good time.

When I first stated watching the film I couldn’t help but think to myself, “what a bunch of dorks...” The filmmakers did an excellent job of fusing the real world lives of the players with their fantasy alter egos.  In doing this they provided a social commentary regarding every person.  How important is your ‘role’ in your private life, your job, or you social activities?  For the people and families highlighted in the film there is little difference as you watch their private and Darkon lives collide.  Oddly, through the course of the film you’ll find yourself entranced and endeared.

DARKON is a fantastic look at a subject matter that could easily be something to just giggle and point at in the hands of another filmmaker. This movie instead takes the time to search out and listen to the individual human stories and intents of the characters and their alter egos. It becomes a mirror to many many people inside and outside of the gaming community as it speaks to larger issues of fantasy and truth and finding (or making) our own reality.

This was well made, a good character study of people that like to play fantasy games. Golfers are pretty much the same everyone has had a co-worker or relative that starts taking golf a little to serious. It looks like a fun and healthy activity for young people.  It is a game that will exercise both your mind and body

darkon is full of lost airheads who think they’re men by pretending to be great knights. It’s both sad a disturbing. Wow, they’re SO epic! (sarcasm) I’d like to see who else is sleeping with these heroes
