It is a fact that the great Louis Armstrong loved his marijuana. Satcmo would insist that all of his musicians get high before every recording session, and he would preach to them in great detail how weed helps a musician to concentrate and play better.Armstrong smoked weed daily throughout his life, and it was legal for many years while he toured until the mid 1930s. In fact, Armstrong wanted to name his autobiography “Gage”, which is another term for marijuana. His agent stole the book and told satchmo that his career would be sunk if it was released.Nonetheless,he was and still is an american treasure. Here’s to the great Satchmo !!!!!!Peace out..................... Posted 04/04/09 by GORDON HUGHES
Few, if any performers put so much into their work as Satchmo did, you could tell in every thing he did that he was giving his all and believed at the particular moment that he would not have rather been any place else in the world doing anything else under the sun. Louis Armstrong is entertainment personified! His music, acting and performing, collectively, are an American national treasure! There is no doubt that we shall never see the likes of him ever again! Those who are unfortunate to have never seen a Louie Armstrong performance, do not know what they are saying when they suggest they have “Been Entertained” Put quite simply, Louie Armstrong was never topped by anyone in his lifetime, and for that matter, never topped before or since! His picture should appear in Mr.Webster’s dictionary right next to the word “Entertainer”!
