Wow, this movie broke my heart. I can’t belive that we have laws like that, it’s awful. Hearing that little girl say goodbye to her daddy made me cry. I really hope something is done to change things, no one deserves to go through that. Everyone has made mistakes.

That’s true. The people in Cambodia don’t like deportees and I met most of the deportess who have gotten chopped and beat up by the locals. It’s like a battle over there between the locals and deportees. Most of the deportees still think they are hard. I went to live there for a year because my husband was deported and I hated it. The Khmer people is always trying to get you for everything you have and they did not see me as Khmer but a foreigner who has lots of money. Jobs are hard to find with the exceptions of foreigners because the Khmer love white people.

I am sorry for all those who has to go back. Life is hard when you are at the mercy of a forn land. You must follow the laws of the land that is not your own. What makes us different from mexicans. They are sent back (the mexicans) why can’t we? Is it because Cambodia is so far. Be strong and God Bless.

thing is that im on that list to be sent back, wierd thing is, i wasnt born in Cambodia, i was born on the land of thailand on the refugee camp.yea i commited some crimes, but they wasn’t big crimes like assualt or robbery, just crimes dealing with cars, some people happen to make more than one mistake i made a few mistakes until they learn there lesson. unfortunely that was me.im just curious how they suppose to send me a country that i never even step in, or yet breath the same air there. Its strange how things work. just like everyone in else, i thought i was here to stay, its not like i came here illegal, i didnt choose to come here. parents brought me here for a better life. im not pointing fingers at no one, its just that how can immigration put some one on a list and not know when your going to go. at least give people like me a estimated date, cus the list holds me back from wanting do anything.im in that mind state where what if get a job. next thing you know i gotta go? then what?do i get paid? nope. cambodia here i come… its life. for you younger generation that was born in the states, be happy you was born here. and the ones tat wasn’t be careful. dont get on that list. you hardcore now, but in cambodia, boy! your nothin, your not even consider cambodian. your consider a returnee. get chopped up and beat up and cops might not even do nothing. well thats all i gotta say, be yourself dont try to impress no one. do you, dont do them.

This documentary just blew me away. I am very active in California prison reform, and in this state we have a lot of illegal immigrants. Due to the massive overcrowding in our prisons, I have been of the opinion that if an illegal commits a crime here, they should be deported (and save the state a lot of money that isn’t fully federally reimbursed). After seeing this film, it opened my eyes to an entire population that I had no idea existed. I had no idea about the governments deportation law applying to refugee’s, or that anyone that initially came here as a refugee was still considered an “alien”. I fully support that each case should be decided and that this country needs to revisit it’s automatic deportation laws. Thank you for such an informative and moving story - I will pass the link to this documentary on to a lot more people (and I will keep these men in my prayers).

One strike and you’re OUT is not what I would call justice. Congress’s reactionary ethos in passing the 1996 repatriation law for resident aliens who have committed a crime is counter-productive and just plain inhumane! The people profiled here-children of Cambodian refugees fleeing Pol Pot’s murderous regime-served their time, paid for their crimes (note: none were heinous) yet, in the eyes of this law, are condemned to bureaucratic purgatory until they are summarily sent back to Cambodia. GITMO is not just a prison in Cuba but a construct of a wholly arbitrary American law.

This film shows how sometime one doesn’t get a second chance. It’s unfortunate that our government has eliminated the opportunity for these people to request a waiver on case by case basis. It’s obvious these men regretted their past mistakes and are willing to follow the right path.
As a country what can we do to help these families?

This is really quite a sad story, I think. I understand that they were illegally, and we can’t let everyone come here just because they want to, we would be so overcrowded, but at the same time, these families have created roots here in the U.S., they have families, children and we are tearing them away from each other, that isn’t right.
We are hurting the children and they had no part in this, right or wrong, they are the innocent ones.

hi,
i don’t like these type of peoples who hurts anybody and i have no sympathy for these type of peoples.
If that’s how you feel, then they should have been sent home whenever their crime was committed; not years later after they’ve done their time, and had families. What’s happening to these Khmer families is wrong, and stupid. Let them appeal, and then determine whether or not they should be deported.

I DONT THINK IT IS FAIR. WHY IS IT THAT I ONLY HEAR ABOUT THE CAMBODIANS AND THE MEXICANS GETTING SENT BACK TO THEIR HOME COUNTRY? WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER RACE? AND I DON’T THINK IT WAS RIGHT TO DEPORT SOMEONE WHEN THEY ALREADY SERVED THIER TIME BEFORE THE LAW CHANGED. IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT. I AM HOPING THE REFUGEE WAIVER ACT PASSES.

I have no empathy for these guys, the stole from and hurt people. We helped these people and then they hurt us, they deserve to be sent home.
