There is no reasonable excuse for Bush administration events that she discusses in this video.  Since these points made are SO critical to the freedoms of the United States, will she apply these points to the Obama administration as well or continue to give him a pass like so much media has been?  The one that struck me most was point #9 as it relates to town hall meetings of summer ‘09 & Pelosi’s comments about them plus Obama rejecting dissent about his policies.  Bush did not let “a good crisis go to waste,” and neither has Obama.

The cure for these ills requires drastic steps of control to reign in those (criminals?) that would destroy us.  Our government must take over the corrupt banks to clean up the mess - there is no other good choice.  Top greedy executives that probably deserved to be in jail should at least lose their lucrative positions for the damage they have done. Afraid of government run health care?  Are you afraid of Medicare? Millions (the bottom 95% of us) that only have Medicare to rely on for health care would tell you what a wonderful thing it is and we are glad to have it.  The big health care commercial insurance institutions don’t want a government option because it would be competition to their monopoly and help lower run away health care costs. What does Naomi think of the present administration? Where is the freedom? When a President can fire a CEO of private enterprise, take it over with the unions, take over banks, force government run health care on people who do not want it? i don’t see this movie as about right or left. it was the right that put these policies in place, however they are there now for any future leader to abuse.

She also brings up the situation with Dan Rather reporting on Bush’s National Guard service.  Good point, bad example.  It would be a good example if it wasn’t shown later that Rather’s producer knew the report was a lie and the documents were fabricated.  Wolf has several good points, but she seems to think these tactics are only limited to what she believes are rightwingers.  Remember, on the true political spectrum, the farther you go to the left, the more government control you have.  Communism, Socialism, and Fascism are all to the left of the political spectrum.  The original Constitution and Bill of Rights, the views of the Founding Fathers, would be far to the right on the political spectrum.  The belief in limited government and more personal freedom are what is truly “right-wing”.

The attack on civil liberties didn’t start with Bush, it just continued at a faster pace.  Wolf talks about Bush centralizing power in the White House, but Obama is doing the same thing with all these Czars that he has been appointing, which circumvent Congress.  Under Wolf’s example number 1, Obama and the Left are now demonizing conservatives and gun owners.  For her example about a paramilitary force, is that the same thing Obama meant when he talked about a national security force as well funded as the military?  When it comes down to it, my main problem with the ACLU and people like Wolf is that they cry about civil liberties and the Bill of Rights, but they don’t believe that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right.  They talk about the evil State, and how the State is taking rights away, but they say that the 2nd only applies to agents of the State, i.e.the National Guard.  How does “the people” in every other amendment mean individual citizens, yet in the 2nd it means the State?  That makes absolutely no sense.  When the State becomes tyrannical, you can’t set things right without privately owned arms.  She talks about Jews being rounded up, Nazi Germany made sure that the Jews were completely disarmed before they started rounding them up.  If you support the Bill of Rights, you need to support all of them, not just the ones you personally approve of.  The ad for the ACLU on this page says “Let your elected officials know that the Constitution will be the first thing on your mind when you vote.” I do keep that in mind, and I also keep in mind that the ACLU doesn’t believe in ALL of the Constitution

I’m only half way through the movie and don’t know if I can stomach it. I gave up about a third of the way through the book. But I recommend it to everyone who finds her insipid, intellecually elitist attitude aggravating.

I find it unbelievably strange how afraid Americans are of anything that appears “socialist”. A healthcare system that caters to everyone is hardly socialist. Is your police system socialist? Is your emergency fire service socialist? What about the army? What about all the infrastructure like roads and schools payed for with tax dollars, are those all socialist? So you’d rather have a healthcare system that bankrupts people or leaves them to die because they have no money than one that ensures everyone is covered? I hate to break it to you, but health insurance by its very nature is socialist. Hell, insurance of any kind is socailist, that’s how the system works. Everyone’s money is thrown into a pool and dished out when its needed.

Ok, I think people need to understand what socialism is and also the fact that its roots have been in this country since its early days. Now I agree socialism does not work on every level of American society, but it works for libraries, it works for city public education… if the people invest into it, heh even the notion of a nation is socialist. We need to understand that if this country is to succeed, it must invest into its self. Communities investing back into its infrastructure, such as education, public motorways, community service, is.... a socialist idea. And it makes sense. And to make something clear on how this would not equal communism, this is for the people and by the people, thus can not be communist. We elect our officials. Now if you create a private sector for every inch of society’s demands, what right do you have to say anything? about anything? You no longer own a voice in how your garbage is picked up. In case you’re not aware, IRAQ DIDN’T DO IT.  And Saddam Hussein, while being a complete a-hole, DIDN’T DO IT EITHER. It is correct that Bush did all of these things. He dealt the deadliest blows to the Constitution with the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act, to name a few. However, what we now see is Obama not only continuing this march to overthrow freedom, but taking it to a higher level.

His proposed “preventative detention”, which will allow a “new legal regime” the power to lock up Americans without due process, counsel or redress; his proposed North American Treaty with Mexico to create an international gun owner database and put us under international gun laws, his empowerment of the corrupt Federal Reserve to run every aspect of free businesses; his proposed “civilian national security force” that will require MANDATORY service for all Americans beginning in middle school; and the bills proposed by his underlings such as H.R. 2159 and H.R. 2647 (amended) that will take away the Constitutional rights of Americans without due process, are all clear evidence of this war on our liberty.

Everything listed above is really happening, and it is all CONSTITUTIONALLY ILLEGAL.

Not to mention that we were lied to this time also. He promised lobbyists wouldn’t run his Washington: =we have 22 lobbyists in the administration now; end the war in Iraq? =expanded the occupation, then shifted troops into Afghanistan expanding the war, began bombing Pakistan; all bills will be up to read for 5 days? =biggest spending bill in history passed hours after completed against even objections of representatives, and bills continue to be pushed through on emergency basis; the list goes on.

We are under tyranny, plain and simple. We can be sure of this by giving each piece of legislation passed and every action of government the Constitutional Test, nearly all will not pass and are Constitutionally Illegal.

While this documentary does a great job of getting people aware of some of the changes done by the Bush administration it is still lacking information. If you want to really see an informative look into the administration then go to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/bushswar/ and watch a serious documentary with more credible people. This one is just for show really and it is pretty shallow compared to the frontline documentary.

Funny how the race toward Fascism is occuring at an order of magnitude faster under Obama than Bush.  Socialism = Slavery and Obama is a text book socialist.  Obama has more in common with Hitler than Bush did.  Hitler was a socialist, so is Obama, Hitler controlled the media, so does Obama.  Hitler used road projects to boost the German economy, so is Obama.  If you speak out against Obama you are savagly attacked, where is the free speech in that?

I live in a large military base area.  I have talked to about 2 dozen of our armed forces that have spent time both in Iraq and Afghanistan. They ALL say we are doing the right thing… the ones willing to give their life for this cause say that Iraq is right, The war on terror is right, our actions are right.  Do you know better than they do?  I am sure there are some in the military that disagree, and that’s the American right, but the majority of them here in good ole Norfolk Virginia are convinced we are doing the right things.  They see the ugly face of terror in a way you can’t.

My grandmother (80 year old) actually thinks that the reason we are at war with Iraq is because of the events that took place on 9/11. She thinks we captured Saddam Hussein because he is the terrorist responsible for the war. She reads no books. Her opinions are the direct result of what she has gathered by watching the television news (all sources). Thousands of people are majorly mistaken similarly. I think our government likes that.

They create problems that cannot be solved, and gather people together for the cause that cannot be achieved. This is so much of our time and concentration is spent on trying to solve the unsolvable problem, and less of our time and concentration is spent on realizing what the real deal is.

There will be no way out, for it will be too late.

This is because our government is trying to occupy our minds with everything possible, to keep us from smelling the coffee, and realizing what the hell is really going on here.

My grandmother (80 year old) actually thinks that the reason we are at war with Iraq is because of the events that took place on 9/11. She thinks we captured Saddam Hussein because he is the terrorist responsible for the war. She reads no books. Her opinions are the direct result of what she has gathered by watching the television news (all sources). Thousands of people are majorly mistaken similarly. I think our government likes that.

They create problems that cannot be solved, and gather people together for the cause that cannot be achieved. This is so much of our time and concentration is spent on trying to solve the unsolvable problem, and less of our time and concentration is spent on realizing what the real deal is.

We must do something about this.

Aside from the film using a fear factor similar to the way the government uses fear, the facts are presented in a clear and concise manner.  From a milder point of view, you should take away from this film the great importance of an OPEN society, an OPEN government, and a FREE press is to the very fundamentals of what we call freedom. 

We are not going down the path to socialism.  The equilibrium of the pull of government and the free market is undergoing a balancing.  Over time it had shifted so that only a few people were in control of the various markets with no one looking over their shoulder, namely the government.  As flawed as the system may be, officials are elected because we are entrusting them to carry out the laws and values we believe are important to us.  Some of these are laws and values regarding our finances.  Without our elected officials looking over the shoulders of the free market players, which we call regulation, there is no reason for them to gamble and steal our money away from us because there is no fear of repercussions. 

All out, no holds barred capitalism is not only unsustainable, but it is also detriment to the standard definition of a free and functioning democracy.  (Chomsky)

i agree with craig, the republicans and democrats have the same agenda.

i dont think clinging to the outdated text of the constitution will help anything. 

the truth is that americans enjoy their lack of freedom.  thats why people get jobs and get married and buy houses and cars that essentially control their lives.  the government simply markets this culture.
