Our Company

Our Company - SnagFilms Inc.

Our mission is to bring the world of independent film to broader audiences everywhere we can: a global digital theater showcasing the movies themselves, as well as the information and extras that enriches and provides context – from film reviews and festival coverage to interviews and opinion pieces. We are a new kind of media company – one that selects the best films and related content so you don’t have to wade through all that clutter; that makes it easy for you to enjoy now, to return later and to share it all with your friends; and that takes it to the next level – not just talking about making the world a better place, but actually doing it … and giving you all sorts of choices for you to make an impact personally. We measure ourselves on a double-bottom-line: we want to continue the growth in the number of films we distribute and the views of those films as well the revenues we make for filmmakers (and our company) -- and we want to empower individuals and communities to make a difference.

Free movies you can share & communities that matter

We distribute independent films on our own website and on a network of over 110,000 other affiliates that include giant portals like Comcast’s Xfinity.com, Hulu, AOL and Yahoo; new locations for viewing like the Starbucks Digital Network; news organizations; non-profits; and bloggers and specialty sites of every kind and description.  That reach has allowed us to offer films on over 3 billion pageviews. Our site and network provide an access point to our library: more than 2500 award-winning independent titles from some of the greatest names in film, watchable for free and on-demand thanks to our sponsors.

In addition to enjoying so many great films on demand, we give you multiple ways to share, or “Snag,” the movies you love with friends and family.  Whether it’s embedding a film on your blog or Facebook page, or e-mailing and Tweeting a link, you have the power to create your own digital movie network by sharing your favorites at the touch of a button.  We also encourage you to join the conversation about our films and engage in our community – add comments on our site, post on our Facebook page, share with a “Like” or a Tweet, and rate each film, so your voice is heard.   And, if a particular film moves you, enlightens you, even motivates you to take action, we provide a range of options on our film pages so you can get more information and participate – from volunteering your time to a cause, to donating to a charity, to spreading the film or the cause, or both. We call it “filmanthropy,” and it’s what happens when film goes beyond entertainment to engage and inspire audiences worldwide. It has allowed us to help thousands of filmmakers and charities, and to make a real impact (you can read some case histories here).  We’ve put together a great hub on our website (click here) to help you get started.

Films where you want them

To provide outstanding films where and when film fans want them, we offer not only online delivery, but viewing via a wide range of devices and platforms.  Our acclaimed iPad application offers a free, digital movie theater for viewers on the go.  Leading technology blog Gizmodo recently named SnagFilms a “Best iPad App” for 2011, and a range of other reviewers have agreeed.   In the coming months, we’ll be offering a SnagFilms app for over 50 Android-based smart phones and tablets from Samsung, Blackberry, Motorola, LG, Sharp, Dell and more.

In addition to our site and our mobile apps, we’re pleased to stream many of our films directly to your living room television via the Roku and Boxee connected TV platforms.   Our iPad app is AirPlay enabled so it wirelessly connects to Apple TV.  And soon, we’ll be available via game consoles, blu-ray players and web-connected televisions from leading electronics brands.

The only surprises are in the plotlines

Rest assured, the SnagFilms website and apps are safe and secure.  We fully respect your privacy and only share films and playlists when you ask us to do so or when you choose to share on your social networks.  In addition, our films are fully licensed and legal to view. You’ll notice that about half our films are available for viewing worldwide, and the other half are for U.S. viewing only.

Even more titles, in more places

SnagFilms also offers select, newer titles via pay video on demand with Comcast Xfinity, FiOS and DIRECTV, as well as on iTunes, HuluPlus, Amazon, Vudu, YouTube Movies, and other digital partners.  If we are not already on the platforms you use to buy or rent films, trust us: we’ll be there soon.
