Hey - Are you the same Ken Birchim who made boxes out of bristlecone pine fence posts? Thanks. Sue Blind Spot is a documentary film that illustrates the current oil and energy crisis that our world is facing. Whatever measures of ignorance, greed, wishful thinking, we have put ourselves at a crossroad, which offers two paths with dire consequences. If we continue to burn fossil fuels we will choke the life out of the planet and if we don’t our way of life will collapse. Latest Comment

“GDP actually mesures the rate at which the economy is extracts useful natural resources running them through the econmic system and deposing of them as toxic waste in our air water and soil.” - David CKorten The series moves to China, whose soaring population and rapid industrialization have created a boom in urbanization that is unprecedented in human history. In an attempt to tackle this global issue, the episode explores design solutions in both theory and practice, including Steven Holl’s Linked Hybrid Project, which when completed will be the largest residential, geothermal heating/cooling and greywater recycling system in the world. Also featured is architect, designer and winner of three U.S. Presidential Awards William McDonough. Recognized by Time magazine as “Hero of the Planet,” McDonough talks about his innovative plans to make China an entirely sustainable country and how it will demonstrate the ways architecture can be both profitable and environmentally intelligent. From the outset FIGHTING GOLIATH: TEXAS COAL WARS was intended to serve as a tool for raising awareness, inspiring action, and creating a meaningful dialogue about how to overcome one of the greatest threats to public health contributors to global warming faced by the U.S.—conventional coal-fired power plants. FIGHTING GOLIATH follows the story of farmers, ranchers and Mayors fighting against the construction of 18 new coal-burning power plants in Texas. TXU Corp. withdrew eight of the 11 permit applications shortly before the case went to court, when it was announced that shareholders would sell the utility to private equity firms. To China’s leaders, the Three Gorges Dam is the most significant engineering feat since the construction of the Great Wall, but to its critics worldwide, it is a social and environmental disaster. As the debate rages on, GREAT WALL ACROSS THE YANGTZE tells the complex story of extraordinary sacrifice in the face of modernization. The film takes viewers to the stunning Three Gorges region, ground zero for China’s quest to build the world’s largest hydroelectric power plant. Shooting without government authorization, filmmaker Ellen Perry penetrates the heartland of China to uncover the unique heritage and beauty of this great river and to understand the irreversible changes the dam brings. She examines the government’s case for the massive dam before investigating the monumental impact it will have on the people, the environment and the priceless archeological sites of the region. Countless species are threatened, and two million people are forced to leave their homes forever. Latest Comment

Has anyone consider the fact that the trash accumulating along the Yangtze will eventually flow down stream and into the Hydro-Turbines causing damage? Maybe even massive and expensive damage. In a playful, surprising and thought-provoking portrait of our time on earth, National Geographic demonstrates, in a series of remarkable visuals, what makes up an average human life today and how everything we do has impact on the world around us. In this unique journey through life, it shows all the people you will ever know, how much waste you will produce, the amount of fuel you’ll consume and how much you’ve got to pack in during your 2,475,526,000 seconds on earth. This is very thought-povoking and a terrific inspirational-jumping-off-place to think about what kind of an “impression” we all want to make on earth in the short time we’re here. What an amazing opportunity SnagFilms has provided for us! Twenty-Five miles from town, a million miles from mainstream society, a loose-knit community of eco-pioneers, teenage runaways, war veterans and drop-outs, live on the fringe and off the grid, struggling to survive with little food, less water and no electricity, as they cling to their unique vision of the American dream… Latest Comment

great film but they said it themselves...it is an insane asylum...but with drugs, alcohol and guns! They bum from the outside society when they are in need of resources (suprise). An eye needs to be kept on this insane asylum in the desert. There is a revolution happening in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America that is transforming the very nature of the food we eat. This well-researched documentary by Deborah Koons Garcia, the widow of the legendary Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, takes an in-depth look at the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decades.

This is scarey prophecy coming to pass. The end really is closing in on us. The Bible is very clear on this, and other political conspiracies that are being prepared to enslave the entire human race! Repent now while there’s still time. THE HUDSON RIVERKEEPERS tells the stirring and dramatic story of how two generations of Hudson River fishermen and environmental activists fought a decades-long battle to protect one of the nation’s great rivers, the Hudson. “Beautifully photographed, dramatic ... uses the history of environmental activism on the Hudson to show how individuals can have a real impact on their communities.” NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. Featuring Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.; as well as excerpts from Walter Cronkite’s classic 1965 documentary, “The Majestic Polluted Hudson,” this important film brings to life one of the great environmental achievements in American history. It is also the story of the one of the landmarks in the U.S. environmental movement—because the fight to clean up the Hudson River went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, and its favorable ruling helped paved the way for many of the great environmental laws passed in the 1970s, such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. |
