  Having recently returned to Canada from a trip to Southeast Asia, I watched and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful film. It was particularly moving to see Khin Po-Thai, the extraordinary guide interviewed about Angkor Wat. For it was Thai's insight, intelligence and warmth that made my visit to Siem Reap the highlight of my trip.

  Ray - thanks for your comment - we love "Churning the Sea of Time" and all of Les Guthman's films (check out the XPLR series, under "Channels"). We do have an editor determine ad breaks (the position of ads), but we've recently switched to a new player, so it is possible that we now have the insertions at the wrong points.   This is an excellent film, and I am grateful that I am able to watch this free online. I don't know if I would have seen this movie if it had not been offered online because quite frankly I doubt that I would have ever heard of it, even though I've always wanted to visit Angkor. This film offers a great deal of cultural context that allows a much deeper appreciation of this magnificent wonder. That being said, I do have a complain concerning the online presentation of the film. I can understand the need for advertisements in order to defray the costs of being able to offer this for free viewing, however I do believe that the advertisements could have been presented in a much less invasive manner. Even on broadcast television they do not cut in on the show usually until the end of a scene, and never in mid-sentence. Several times, if not every time, this film went to a short advertisement, it did so while in the middle of someone speaking, i.e., almost constantly interrupting the ongoing discussion in mid-sentence. It would be nice if whoever designed this for online viewing were to go through, perhaps while watching the film, and discern appropriate places to stop for a short commercial break. It feels as though the ads were pushed in on a timed interval that has a rather large impact on the viewer's ability to enjoy the programming. Hopefully someone in a position to do so will stumble upon this comment and be able to do exactly that. Once again thank you very much for a very enjoyable film - my desire to visit Angkor has grown even more significant, and I'm sure what I've seen here will help enrich the experience. Congratulations on a fine piece of documentary!

  I happen to watch this magnificent film, "Churning the Sea of Time," last night, after reading Nick Kristoff's two chilling recent columns in the New York Times about sexual slavery in Cambodia. I was so impressed that the director, Les Guthman, quoted earlier writings by Kristoff on sexual predators in Phnom Penh in "Churning the Sea of Time," which was made two years ago. And then, in this Southeast Asia journey, he takes us to the fabulous ruins at Angkor. What a great film.

  Excellent film! However, the only way to grasp Angkor is to be there. I hope that someone will choose to amplify the issue of Landmines that is mentioned a few times in the film. Cambodia is the most heavily mined country on earth. Poverty forces people into known mined areas to farm, scavenge or simply gather firewood. Humanitarian Demining projects are ongoing and the organizations doinjg the work need your support. Please see www.magclearsmines.org and www.magamerica.org
