In 1954 Italy will conquer terrain that no other country had yet managed to tread: the earth's second highest peak, the unexplored summit of K2. The exploration was run by Ardito Desio like a military operation, closer in style to the great missions of the 19th century than to the Alpine challenges of today.
The men chosen for the climb were from all over Italy: Bergamo, Florence, Sassari, Bologna, Chioggia. With them is Mario Fantin, one of Italy's finest documentary filmmakers, who will record the mission from beginning to end on 16mm film.The country would follow their perilous adventure daily on the radio.
