Fantastic and sad documentary. She's such an intelligent and headstrong person. I'm addicted to cigarettes and I can't imagine the struggle of an addict. I am saddened, above-all for the lives her addiction affects. Wonderful job!

This letter is to both the producer and Lisa; Wow. This is a powerful insight into the life of an addict who is very special and who is hurting very much on the inside. Upon getting clean, there is much much work to do but it is the most powerful experience I have ever had. I will be praying that the Good Lord would call Lisa and draw her near to Him so that she can experience a life beyond her dreams.

Watched this while high on painkillers. Firstly, drug addiction needs to be treated as a public health issue which leads to crime and criminality when improperly dealt with, rather than a criminal element of society. Unfortunately Stephen Harper has basically declared war on an entire demographic of Canadian society wiih his "anti-drug" legislation. In his desire to emulate America he has chosen the non-approach to dealing with the drug issue. Second of all, more initiatives for promoting harm reduction in the unfortunate cases of people like Lisa are sorely needed, before HIV and other addiction related ailments become endemic and bog down our health care system even further. Within a few decades the amount of palliative care required for dimensia-like conditions associated with chronic methamphetamine use alone will be astronomical. The resulting burden on valuable hospital resources will be catastrophic. But most the most important thing needed is additional research into the root causes behind both drug use as well as habituation. In my opinion there is a such a thing as reasonably responsible recreational use of certain entheogens, however the relationship between humans and entheogens is a complex one, compounded even futher by the vast complexities and variation from one individual to another. This is just one more aspect of civilisation that is in need of a drastic overhaul.

My ex-sister in law is also an addict, and as much pain she has caused her kids, my brother, and my parents, I honestly do not wish her bad. I only hope that some day she can too recover and think of her children... yet I dont know if that will ever be possible. Maybe she can see what you've seen... Thank you again for this film. Addicts are neither smarter nor dumber than other people. Addicts can come from any & all backgrounds, intelligence levels, socio-economic groups etc. This one is not the 'intelligent addict' as promised, if that meant 'above-average'... as far as I can see. Animal cunning is more like it. One thing about addicts, they are the center of their own universe. They usually think they are special, smarter and better than everyone; while at the same time thinking they're the lowest and worst. She's no different. It's not hard to get an addict to talk about themselves, they love to do it. It would've been nice to get some balance by showing somw of the people she was hurting. But she was pro bably deluding herself when she said she was doing this to raise awareness, etc. Most likely she was doing this because IT WAS ALL ABOUT HER. I wish her well, hope she stays clean. I have. But it would probably be better for the stated purpose if they showed a successful recovery and not the midst of failure.

OK, now that I've read some of the others, I gotta chime in. I was transfixed by the film from the second it started. I think you really captured the disease in progress. And the rollercoaster of it all. And the sureity of our decisions that we take back, over and over. And Lisa's "it's working for me right now" attitude. I remember that....bloody nose, rapid heart, "everything's great!"-feeling. Sobriety rocks. God bless you guys for taking this forward, you're saving lives. Keep coming back. Peace.

Lisa is truely brave to face the realities of addiction head on and show the REAl consenquences of bad choices made many years before. We don't know at that age if we indeed have that "addictive personality" or if we may be "predisposed" to addiction. People always say "there must be a reason, something must have happened in this person's life", but the reality is we get in over our heads and before we know it, we are addicted. It is incredible the people we meet who are addicts, doctor's, lawyers, well brought up persons. Addiction does not discrimnate. I wish Lisa well on her journey.

Lisa, I hope you are still alive. Lots of love and peace. I also hope you are celebrating years, days, and every minute of sobriety and recovery. I wish you health and happiness. And I hope God will bless you and your daughter. To everyone else including the film makers: why not discuss the reasons why Lisa uses or even ask the question? I am in recovery. I have discovered one thing that no one wants to talk about: Many substance abuse addicts were sexually abused as children (incest) or are survivors of sexual violence (rape or incest). When I was younger, I told everyone (teachers, counsellors) that I was being sexually abused. When was the only time anyone in authority become "concerned" or "alarmed"? When I told everyone I was pregnant. Even then no one asked who was the father. I don't know Lisa's story. But why don't we ask why? Incest survivors have to maintain the biggest lie of all: Nothing happened to me.

Hi, I just want to say that I have watched many documentaries and films on addiction and how addicts live and out of all of them this one has touched me more than all the others. All anyone can do for Lisa is pray for her and hope she finds happiness and freedom from all the horrible demons that you can see in the soul of her eyes...those beautiful blue eyes. Paul you did exactly what people need and that is just to listen...we all need someone to listen to us...if just once. I would certainly suggest this film to anyone looking to educate or show to loved ones the life of an addict. Thank you, both Lisa and you.

Opened my eyes Paul... had an in-law go through what Lisa going through, unfortunatley she didn't make it and died at 44... as much as I find it hard to relate I was captivated by the film as a parent you have to be aware as it can happen to anyone... surprising not more end up like Lisa... good luck to her... Just wanted to comment on this--it was certainly stark. I believe that I saw Lisa on Oprah. It takes some of us a long time to get used to life as it is. It's scary, even for those of us who aren't getting high--and for young women who are on their own, it really can be daunting. It's understandable that someone would want to do something else to pass the time other than to engage in reality. Well-educated people are expected to somehow not feel as if it's going to be difficult, because they are "prepared" and "smart enough" to cope. But this has little to do with our feelings--and having feelings of fear when one is so very "prepared" is almost a guilty thing. So many of us women don't have many role models to live our lives as we think that we should, and we think that we shouldn't want to be just mothers. All of this makes it very easy to pursue drugs. The great thing is this--you will grow older and more confident in yourself. I know this because I am turning 50 this year, and I don't have those fears, in part, just because I've made it this long. So, Lisa, stay sober so that you can enjoy this much as you grow older and so that you will be responsible, because we don't need irresponsiblility, nor do you. Good luck to you. As for Mr. Perrier, you're like water, aren't you? -- needed by Lisa and others who depend on you. Regardless of the quality of this film as art, it is important.

That documentary was awful. The entire thing was filmed in a hotel room. I did not find it informative, thought provoking or enlightening...simply boring. Hope that Lisa makes her journey to recovery and holds on though.

Yes it is "only" two interviews with Lisa. The first one was not planned and the second was to let her watch an hour of her life. I've had a lot of experience with people close to me being addicts. It's funny because all junkie's look the same, have the same mannerisms, same mentality. It really is a horrible life. I can understand how some of the people below can make such harsh judgments, or believe "shes just enjoying her life while being a dumb #####". I suppose if you have never had any experience of the hidden, darker sides of society, than that would be an easy conclusion to come to. I'd just remind people that drug addiction is not confined to the the ghetto's, it's present at all levels of society, and it seems that the majority of the hate directed at users is aimed at those who lack the means to hide it. It is possible to overcome addiction, many people I thought were gone have turned their lives around and are now doing really well. That said, I think as a documentary it's a pretty poor effort. Really it's just two interviews with this lady and the guy doesn't take the opportunity to explore the subject more fully. I think he is just the wrong sort of guy to film a subject like this, he's too squeamish, and clearly is affected by his preconceptions and value judgments.

Because it looks like shes just enjoying her life while being a dumb ##### while there are so many people suffering out there and she has the means to do whatever she wants. I also find it funny how she has that charity organization supporting her habit...Thanks! Today supplies for addicts...Next Year, crack for kids! Anyway I didn't find this very enjoyable at all it just reminds me of alot of people I've met and none of them deserve any pity for they have dug their own graves just as this woman has.

This person needs some kind of psychiatric medication delivered intramuscularly. I have no sympathy for her kind of suffering. When you think of the countries such as Colom bia and Mexico where innocent people's lives are shattered by the illegal cocaine trade the concern for the user slowly evaporates. Find her a good social worker, a reliable ankle bracelet, and a small town for exile and close the case.

Nobody on this planet can look inside anothers heart. Irrational behavior cannot be rationalized. Drug addiction is a disease. The only ones who can truly understand it have been through it personally. These people are trying to fill a void in them that cannot be filled with crack or any other substance. That personal void is what needs to be recognized. For some people this is hard to look at. They do not want to believe that this could happen to them. I know this story.

I've only ever known one person who used (and was addicted to) crack cocaine, and I only saw him briefly after he became very addicted (was a Black man, a good friend to me, and the thing I recall most was he was so ashen, a sickly blue hue to his skin and he was so drawn and thin, skin hung a bit off his cheeks and body of a formerly robust man). I am familiar with addiction more in alcoholism as its been in my family, and it was nothing like this. I have never known a person who has this lady's 'profession' I called her a lady just now with intention because of of the things about her that struck me most is that she does carry herself at all times we were shown anyway, like a lady and to be honest, I would not have expected that. She was also very honest it seemed to me (and that was unexpected too), even if at times honest in a sort of rehearsed/recited sort of way, she certainly 'knows the drill' and the deal of what she's doing it seems. She talked very very fast and it was very hard for me to process what she said (I had to rewind a number of times) and I wondered if that was the drugs or how she naturally is or if she has a mood disorder or anything else she is also 'self medicating' with her addiction. The most admirable thing about her is that she doesn't give up on quitting, that she repeatedly time and time again does keep trying. I wonder if she ever sits still, is ever just quiet, what is she like when alone, does she keep on talking (maybe to herself?) and moving/constant motion even then? Wonder if she ever gets to live in anything other than a little room; I wonder about never getting a 'day off' from the constant phone and her profession. Thank you for (this website) for yet another interesting thought provoking look into another human being. You seem very good at that here.

Wow. I guess sitting in a room with a junking while she answers the phone is considered a documentary. Pathetic. So I'm supposed to be shocked at her behavior or impressed because she had a "good" upbringing? I feel like the "friend" asking the questions is just drooling over her "sordid" answers and the amazing candid footage he thinks he's capturing. Too easy. This woman is a mother and a daughter. She breaks the hearts of all who know and care about her, yet she is carefree. WHO is Cracked and WHO is Not Broken in this story? She lies to others and to herself. Her tears are false, a ploy for sympathy. She uses the film not to raise awareness but as a faulty rationalization of her addiction as a sickness; pure psycho-babble. She feels shame and knows not what for; not ashamed of herself "because it's not as though..." stopping just short of admitting she has no control. "repressing something that needs to be repressed", "complete surrender is the way it has to be", "This is real, this is not a ghetto thing, this is happening to all sorts of different people", "It's not talked about, it's pretended it's not there", "it's important to everyone to realize it is there, and try to understand what's going on because we are greatly misunderstood", "I survive it by doing what I have to do to stay high" No Lisa, few are pretending other than the addicts who, when they get sick or hit a low, go to rehab where someone else will (if nothing else) take responsibility for them long enough to get them back on the street ready to PnP. And even fewer fail to understand that an addict is the ultimate drama major, will convincingly lie, cry, beg, ####, anything they need to do in order to get their party on. You are allowing yourself "to be presented en masse" because you are at a low, you feel like ####, you look like crap, you're twitchy and itchy, and no-one wants to play with - much less pay for your skanky ### at the moment. YOU are exploiting your own child, speaking of him/her in tears only for yourself. Talk about reality - how many of your "associates" are first time IV drug users? Young, dumb, full of cum anxious to experience that "older woman" fantasy, how much disease are you spreading with your needles and your nasty twat? Oh, and you are NOT a "client" of the needle exchange program, nothing is purchased. The program is merely a small effort to contain disease while the narcissistic junkies party on. Is that harsh? GOOD! Reality is a ############. I am repulsed because you are my son and no amount of caring, talking, understanding, praying, cursing, pleading, enabling, helping, rejecting, embracing, NOTHING I do helps because you care ONLY for your drugs. Did you even call your Mother after her very heartfelt letter. Her tears are only a drop in the river of Mother's tears.

There are few things more annoying or tedious than watching a junkie trying to find a vein. I'm so sick of this current trend of hardcore addict documentaries, and this one in particular was painful to watch, not because of the subject matter but because it's so poorly made. Very uninteresting and self-important.

That was in the early 80s and I now find that the whole experience was educational, but I have no desire to become that person again. There are no cravings or urges to ever repeat the experience. If one sees the objective reality of that practice, it is very easy to walk away. At least it was for me. But then, I am addicted to objectivity now.

Dear Lisa, I watched this movie on the edge of my seat, hoping beyond hope that it did not end on a very sad note. I am praying for your recovery. I'm proud of you that you have come this far. I think LIsa is very honest and very smart. I think she would make it if she would go to a rehab that last for about a year or longer. If she could step far enough away from the big picture she could grasp everything that is driving her to this behavor. Good luck

Lisa, God bless you. Forgive yourself. Realize none of us do the right things all the time. My wife and I have tried quitting smoking several times. No dice. And that is just smoking Camel Lights; although Camel lights are a smooth blend of Turkish and domestic tobacco. We will continue to try. I also am aware of the struggles with mental illness. Former girlfriend had Bipolar disorder, with Borderline Personality to boot. She could not help doing the things she did. That was the way her brain was wired. Forgive yourself. Then find an environment that you can heal. I hope this is not preachy. Watching the video makes me want to reach out and hug you and make it all better. Doesn't work that way. But I can see in the video you have more than enough strength to do this. Just do it. Forgive yourself of the past. Can't change yesterday, but you can change tomorrow.

I have one suggestion, and it worked for me and many others: Ask God to remove the desire to use from you, and He will take it away. I used for about 23 years, and had tried 50 or more times to really quit. After I got down on my face and asked God to help me by taking that desire away, and replacing it with His desires, I almost immediately felt his presence and touch again. It had been absent for around 13 years, and now I have a decent sucky job, like everyone else, and still have time to accomplish more than I ever could while using. My family is healing, and I serve washing dishes at church for nothing, and it brings me great joy. Just because I am NOT high, and dont want to be any longer. I thank Him every day for helping me, and God can help anyone that asks for it. If you are reading this, and doubtful, let me tell you that no one gets here by accident. You have found this movie, maybe this comment, just to have a new chance at life. Just trust God. He is way bigger than anything people can screw up. He made us all in His image, and with love, and a desire to fellowship with us through prayer and worship. He sent Jesus to die for all sin, yours, mine, everyone that asks. Everyone. No matter how bad you think you are, or how much pain you have caused, Jesus still loves you and wants to heal you. Please dont wait until someone is calling your relatives to identify your corpse. If you are living the addicted life, playing the game, just know that the game has an ending. No one squeaks by forever because of their own knowledge or experience. Everyone dies at some point. Facing an eternity without hope in Jesus is scarier than any addictive behavior. God isn't worried about your past. He wants you to have a future, and a glorius relationship with Him. Trust me, if someone like me can get clean, anyone can, with God's help. Just ask for it. What have you got to lose? All that glamour and excitement you have now? I only see pain and anguish when I look back on my using. Not to mention that I have a renewed life, and a chance to look at the world with clear vision and opened eyes. You can have that as well. Ask God for help and to remove the desire to use. Trust another junkie's opinion: It works! 1 Peter 5:8-Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour. An unbelievably good film that really digs deep into the heart of addiction and all that it can consume. This film made me take a hard look at my drinking habit and really has given me some strength to finally move onto the next chapter of my life, sober. Thank you for this.
