Even a small wild cat like a Lynx can kill a fully grown man. The only reason they do not is because they are fearful of injuring themselves in the process (there are no hospitals in the wild) but they most certainly could kill a man if they wanted to. Putting yourself nose to nose with the world’s largest bears is INSANE and Timothy should have known he was putting any bear that ate him in peril of being shot and killed. He also put his ‘girlfriend’ in mortal danger. I would say he was a complete fool but I think I will take it a bit easy on the man (RIP) and just say that he was totally INSANE in the end. But I will say that anyone who thinks for one second that Timothy would not have shot and killed the bear that was eating him alive if a gun suddenly appeared in Timothy’s hands IS a complete fool. Every idealist thought goes right out the window when a person is in that situation.

The whole point was to protect the bears, and Timothy also said that he would rather die that to harm a bear. He had a strong belief that if you enter the territory of a wild animal you have no reason to harm it. That is why they carried no weapons.
