Devil in the Room

Have you ever woken in the night unable to move, convinced that you are not alone? DEVIL IN THE ROOM is an experimental docu-horror film that examines what happens when dreams leak into waking life. Throughout the summer of 2012, filmmaker Carla MacKinnon would wake up unable to move, afraid and convinced there was something in the room with her. Sometimes she would see or hear people around the bed or feel cats padding over the blanket, and once woke up and saw a giant spider hovering above her. This strange phenomenon is called sleep paralysis. Made as a part of The Sleep Paralysis Project, this film was supported by a Wellcome Trust Arts Award, and was made as part of an MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art.
