Hook, Line and Singer Synopsis

"There must be an inner drive of some sort to make you want to succeed, because it's a field that's crowded with a lot of wannabes..." - Andy Summers, The Police.

In this comedic but candid exploration of what it takes to "make it" as a singer/songwriter, veteran Andy Summers and gifted but struggling indie artists share their experiences, philosophies and talent with a naive newcomer to the Los Angeles music scene. Does he have the talent and drive he needs to succeed? Or is he just another wannabe?

Filmmaker/musician Norm Anderson sets off on a comical and revealing journey through LA, trying to figure out what it takes to succeed in the music business. To do so, Norm becomes a subject himself, writing and performing songs and turning for advice to seasoned veterans such as Andy Summers of "The Police," hot new talent like the Interscope-signed new-comers "Woven" and performers who've been struggling for years but are still waiting for their big break.

As Norm pursues his long-suppressed but life-long dream, he tries, fails and tries again, getting critiqued, encouraged and occasionally humiliated by his guides. Along the way, he learns that there are a lot more obstacles - internal and external - than he thought to becoming a musical success. He comes to a better understanding of what it takes to make it, and what sacrifices are required of those daring, passionate or crazy enough to try. In the process, he learns a lot about himself - both about his talents and his limitations. Whether he writes a hit song, gets signed to a major label, or gives up and crawls under a rock remains to be seen...

"Hook, Line and Singer" walks a fine line, successfully balancing hilarity, absurdity and irreverence with moments of poignant candor. Norm brings us along on his journey with a combination of self-deprecating humor and deep respect for the artists he meets and manages to strike a chord that resonates with just about everyone who's ever dared to dream big.
