The 352nd fighter Group was one of the most feared and respected squads of all of World War II. Flying their infamous Blue Nose P-51 Mustangs, these young daredevil pilots wreaked havoc on the German Luftwaffe. In a short amount of time they became the most decorated group of pilots in American aviation history. Yet their story is much more than that of sacrifice and courage. These men formed a bond and friendship with each other that has stood since the fall of the Third Reich. Each year since their days over the war torn skies of Europe have ended, these men have gathered from all over the country to retell timeless stories of adventure, and humor. They come together faithfully each year without pretence or rank to toast both life and fallen brethren. This documentary captures their personal stories in interviews, and their courageous service in original dog-fighting scenes from military archives.
Each year since their days over the war torn skies of Europe have ended, these men have gathered from all over the country to retell timeless stories of adventure, and humor. They come together faithfully each year without pretence or rank to toast both life and fallen brethren.
Unfortunately though, time has taken its toll on these ole' warriors, and now some sixty years later, these aging yet heroic men have decided that the travel and the pain of not seeing the return each year of familiar faces has become too much to bear. Once 2200 strong and now, with less than 100 remaining, they have decided that there can be only one more reunion. This final gathering not only marked the millennium, but also the passing of the torch to the squad's current Air Force legacy, the 192nd fighter wing of Richmond, Virginia. With F-16's and a regal and full military sendoff as a backdrop, these incredible heroes gather together for what will be their last time.
With original gun camera footage, never before seen home movies and the largest assembly of restored Bluenosed mustangs as a pallet, The Last Reunion - A Gathering of Heroes tells of the incredible accomplishments these men made for freedom. Just as important, however, it also tells the emotional stories of endless friendships, and of a brotherhood that could only be born in the fires of war.
