Yvonne, Africa's leading female singer, known as "The Princess of Africa," embarked on the "Motherland" tour to meet women throughout Africa and bring their stories to an international audience. As a UN Envoy for Africa, UNICEF and Roll Back Malaria Ambassador, Yvonne interweaves her music with the powerful and inspiring stories of women who are transforming the lives of their families… their communities… and their countries.
Entertaining, important, and timely, A MOTHERLAND TOUR will help focus much-needed attention on the women of Africa and their most pressing issues – including malaria, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, women’s empowerment, education, and poverty.
Yvonne uses her music to bring about positive change in Africa. Over her 25-year career she has performed alongside stars including Bono and Annie Lennox. She is considered like a daughter to Nelson Mandela who told Yvonne how he was sustained by her music during his time in prison. Mandela is also featured in the film.
The talents of women are like a vast untapped natural resource. Female voices are still largely unheard in traditional seats of power. Learn More »
