Director Elliott Nugent
Starring Charles Dingle, Reginald Denny, Dorothy Lamour, Alan Ladd
An uproarious 1940s film noir-cum-romantic comedy, MY FAVORITE BRUNETTE stars the legendary Bob Hope (Road to Morocco) as Ronnie Jackson, a baby photographer on death row in San Quentin State Prison. While waiting to go to the gas chamber, Jackson tells reporters about the events leading to his incarceration in a series of flashbacks. While taking care of his private-eye neighbor?s office, he is mistaken for the sleuth by the irresistible Baroness Montay (Dorothy Lamour, Road to Hong Kong). The proverbial damsel in distress, she hires him to find the missing Baron, which sets off a series of wacky yet sinister episodes in a gloomy mansion and a private sanatorium. Co-starring Peter Lorre (The Maltese Falcon), Lon Chaney Jr. (High Noon) and Reginald Denny (Hitchcock's Rebecca)?and with very funny surprise cameos by noir regular Alan Ladd (The Blue Dahlia) and Hope partner Bing Crosby (White Christmas)?this excellent spoof of movie detectives is rollicking good fun.
