Rappers, Divas and Virtuosos: H-Kayne, Hip-Hop Moroccan Style Synopsis

Hip-hop has only taken hold in Morocco the last six years, and it is largely thanks to H-Kayne, a group of four young men from the central city of Meknes who grew up listening to Biggie and Tupac, then forged their own style. It fuses western beats with some traditional Moroccan instruments and melodies, and lyrically it speaks out - often wittily - against corruption and for individual freedom. Interweaving scenes from the group's hometown, comments from fans, excerpts from H-Kayne's video about Internet addiction, and a performance before an adoring crowd in Casablanca, the film shows why H-Kayne has connected with Moroccan youth, and speaks for them.
