The seventies was a decade of extremes for the Rolling Stones. They rose to the height of their creative powers early in the decade, but drug problems, personal conflict, and overall disillusionment edged the band into disarray. As critics became increasingly dismissive of the "aging" rock stars, record sales were also falling. The Stones managed to turn their luck around by the end of the decade with the release of Some Girls, a release which became their number one selling album in the US.
