"The Session Players" is part documentary, part concert and part how-to television.
It is a unique TV project for the millions who enjoy music and of special interest to those who have ever dreamed about being a musician, recording artist or songwriter.
The first performance takes a completely new song and brings it to life. Joining our cast is songwriter Barry Preston. Barry wants to have his song recorded by an established artist. He needs a strong demo (demonstration recording) to "pitch" his tune.
The musicians then move to the second task of the day. We showcase an up and coming headliner, Nina Sharp. Her song will serve as an "artist pitch", a radio ready song that her producer, Tony Mantor, will carry to the major record labels in hopes of securing a deal for an album.
The third segment is devoted to an instrumental piece designed to showcase the talents of our players. It comes together as if they've played it a hundred times. It then becomes the end theme for our episode, played with credits.
Throughout the show we break away from the studio to learn more about the world of the recording studio. The players as well as other industry pros give us a conversational look into a world heard by many but seen by very few. Most working studio musicians have more than 10 years experience before they even get to their first session. Some of our players have more than 20 years experience in the studio and they all have stories to tell.
The depth and breadth of our creative accomplishments since the earliest known cave paintings, roughly 1,500 generations ago, is astonishing. Learn More »
