  John/Anthony -- I'm the mother of a disabled Iraqi vet. My blood froze when I read what you two wrote. My son used to write his dad and me with stories of how some of his so-called brothers in arms acted like morons and their conduct brought shame and dishonor to the uniform. I can see now, that he was right about some of you. As for the others that served, they did us proud. I received many calls from his fellow soldiers, praising my son for saving their lives, and sticking with them while under fire. My other son just completed his last tour in Afghan. If I hadn't been told, it would hard to believe such harsh words would be directed at their fellow soldiers. You should be ashamed (but I can see from your arrogance, that you weren't taught any better).

  I feel sick, I feel terrible. I don't know where any of the guys I was in the Army with are.. I haven't talked to anyone since I left. ..call me lucky I guess. Nobody is ever really ready to see another human die.. to see another human be ripped apart by the rounds you're firing.. life goes on? Where are my friends? wtf. Why?

  Thank you to all the Vet's that have served this country. My self being a vet also, my heart goes out to my brother and sister. I am now a monastic in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and I am trying to purpose to my community to have a retreat for Veterans and there families as well as anyone who would like to help or better understand the Veterans. I was very touch about the story of Clay Hunt a young Veteran who took his life. So i am trying to work to help my brothers and sister have a better way to deal with there suffering and hardships. Thank You to all that are supporting any program to help Veterans and there families.

  the government has no intentions to improve the situation of the veterans. We are considered expendable. Take a look at history. Its the same thing over an over. The reason why it happens because the people do not speak out when they do it is for a little while and it dies away. Thats what the government depends on. The public has short term memory. We could complain as many times as we want they will pacify us by giving us a few crumbs but thats it. They have no intentions of improving the situation. They will pretend. Every thing the government does is covert. They put up these bofus plans or bofus explanations knowing that the people will do nothing. What needs to happen is that we ban together an never let them forget. We should boycott anythig that makes these politicans and big corporate rich. If we don't buy they can't make money. could you imagine if we limit how much gas we buy. The companies will be forced to lower the cost. Don't buy or reduce the amount you buy. Iuf millions of people did this we would have corporate america losing a lot of money. We the people have more power than we know. But our government discourages us from speaking out. They say we are free but we are really not. the government has too much power. They treat us liek disposable commodity. If we don't let our boys join the services they can't have the war. If they bring in the draft just don't go. but it has to be all of us. They don't have enough prisons to hold millions of people breaking the law.. This war is just make the politicians and contractors (thier friends an families rich) the prices are rising and employment salaries are limited. They have a plan to separate the poor from the rich. the laws for the rich are different from the laws for the poor. Our government are full of greedy selfish indiviuals. We need to unite. There is nor more a United States Look at what they are doing to New Orleans. They are making it into a community for the wealthy. They have been wanting to do this for years. This may have been in the plans for years

  This is a great video!! there is a HUGE problem with homeless Vets... there are some that WANT to be homeless and there are those who DON'T... unless you have walked in HIS boots, you do not know what HE went thru!! death is death no matter WHAT your MOS was or is!! he was on the front line supporting his fellow soldiers and under fire just like everyone else!! My (now) ex-husband was an Army Medic and has PTSD... HE saw A LOT of death and things happened over there that NO human should go through!! I love him more than anything and all I can do is support him and help him when he needs it/lets me ... I 'lost' my husband in Iraq... he is not the man I fell in love with... only 'part' of him came back!! I am a Veteran of the Air Force and the Navy, I am fortunate, in a way, that I did not go to Iraq. But I was active duty on 9/11 and my job was to support the Reservist and do whatever was needed to get them ready and their families ready for deployment!! There are programs out there now for homeless Vets, I am one of them!! after my truck was totaled in June 2008, I became homeless... I now have Section 8 and am VERY grateful for the help that I have received from the VA and the help I get for my family... It is a fight but as Herold said that you must speak out and make it known, stand up a fight for what you believe in and DESERVE!! it does suck that these returning Vets have to fight for what is deserved for fighting for our country... there is A LOT to be said about a volunteer, their spirit is fierce and their hearts are strong... my ex-husband volunteered to go to Iraq so that a single mom with 3 kids would not have to go!! HE is a hero and so is Herold and all the Vets of this era and all wars... they risked their lives and some gave their lives! they deserve ALL our respect no matter what their job was or if they were overseas... stateside or wherever, a Vet is a Vet!! Thank you all for your service and sacrifice!! God Bless you and your families who sacrificed along with you and gave us their sons, daughter, husband, wives, moms and dads!! from a 3rd Generation Navy Sailor! Tammy from Denver

  I read all these accounts, but nothing about the brave men who fought in the Korean War...it was a war. My husband did not like the word conflict where there were so many killed in two years or they froze to death. A bullet is a bullet..in a war they all kill. I no longer have my husband, but it was a hard time for us. I gave birth to our first child when he was in Korea..he was wounded..suffered flashbacks when he got home. So many heroes in this war..my husband was one of them. Always, it seems, the Forgotten War. God Bless all veterans. Betty Berney, Americanism Chairperson for the VFW Auxiliary for over 25 years.

  John and Anthony, obviously you must've come home to a nice coushy home, these guys came home to nothing! Why would vets compare they're situtions to someelses? You don't know what he saw, you don't know how it affected him. Just be grateful its not you and that you're alive today! What kind of a country are we? What kind of a nation are we? To allow this to happen? People often forget that Bush was trying to cut funding for soldiers while they were fighting in the war and he cut funding so when they returned there wasn't anything for them. How can we build up our nation while tearing it down? Even in Iraq if a suicide bomber blows himself up, his family is taken care of for life, here our soldiers are left to fend for themselves, its disgusting! God helps us!!!

  Ok @Anthony and John. I am truly surprised by what you both said. He may not have been a grunt fighting in the trenches. But he is just like you both a veteran. His job was to make sure you were supplied with the fuel needed to carry out the mission. Which means he saw the horrors of battle just as you did. Because he is 100% he can't re enlist. So I am at a loss because he is your comrade. Part of the reason there are so many vets and yes active duty struggling is due to that attitude "Suck it up and drive on" but that does nothing to address the trauma and issues that are driving our returning warriors to suicide and incarceration. We as vets must look to each other for peer support because the world only cares that we go and fight but not how and what we return too.

  I was very touched by the documentary. All of the veterens deserve better. As for the soldiers who have no sympathy, what if your situation was not so prosperous. Everyone has different situation, The documentary makes me angry, when those who have an abundance of wealth cannot step up and help those who have served their country to keep them free from harm. After seeing the documentary I have already started spreading the word about this dilema. I will start writing letters to the government to help assist our veterens. Not one veteren should be homeless when they return to civilian life.

  What A whiny #####. Want a job dude re-enlist. If he would have stayed in he could still have a great career. I spent four years in Iraq more than any soldier. I seen all the ####. I came home and I have a great career and a new baby. To all of you young soldiers out there. You know where you came from don't go back there stay in the military you can retire at 40 years of age.

  I was feeling for Harold till he said he was a fuel truck driver. Going around crying about PTSD when he just drove around refueling tanks and hummvs. This sort of person gives real combat veterans a bad name.

  Man I felt this one. Being a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm I can almost relate. When I was discharged I went back home to Detroit and was on unemployment for half a year living with my parents. However, when I had nothing but a bag of clothes and a car, I used the GI Bill and went to a vocational school and learned new skills. I was gainfully employed before I graduated. Now, I was pretty angry and messed up in the head for a while but I took the uniform off and "came home". I hope these veterans coming back realize that they have to put it all behind them, get trained with tangable skills and get back into society. Sure you fought for your country and saw the evils of war fist hand but don't sit there with your hands out expecting anybody is going to fill them with gold and opportunity. Those are things you must do for yourself. Nobody carried you through your military training so I know you have it in you. I have spent the last 18 years telling myself that what I did over there will not be the high point of my life and it hasn't. I have never stopped fighting to stay on top of this life by taking what I learned in the Marines and continued expanding on it. With that said, I am wondering if we will see a follow up documentary to see where Noel is today. Considering this was out in 2006. Noel how are you man?
