The Celts

The Celts were the first European people north of the Alps to rise from anonymity. They were never an empire, but they were a civilization. Reviled for their barbarism and admired for their artistic craftsmanship; wild ferocious drunkards, they were also romantics and mystics. Their story is one of survival, defiance and creativity in the face of oppression. This episode examines the emergence, history, meaning and threats to the Celtic identity. Today the struggle to define an identity continues.
